Kairos Audit Manager (KAM) Showcase Hospital Evaluation Report Published

Kairos Systems is pleased to announce that the Department of Health (DOH) has now published the findings following a a controlled evaluation of our Kairos Audit Manager Solution within Lewisham Healthcare NHS trusts Infection prevention and control department.

100% agreed or strongly agreed that the KAM solution saved time.

As part of the Department of Health’s Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) Technology Innovation Programme, Showcase Hospitals have undertaken local technology reviews of infection related products or technologies in which they have a specific interest.
A study conducted by the National Audit Office found that many Trusts did not feel they had sufficient IT or clerical resources to support their system of surveillance. Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust decided to review our Kairos Audit Manager(KAM), which is an electronic data capture and reporting solution (EDCRS) that may provide a viable solution to surveillance and data handling for IPC departments. The evaluation involved compliance audit of the Green is Clean sticker, which indicates the cleanliness of stored medical equipment.

83% of the IP&C nurses strongly agreed the entered data could be easily edited

84% of the IP&C nurses agreed or strongly agreed that KAM was easy to use but 16% disagreed

84% agreed or strongly agreed that receiving weekly emails of the audit findings was useful

84% of respondents preferred electronic reporting

During the evaluation Kairos was plotting the weekly audit performance on the chart below by extracting the results from the KAM reporting system.

The performance chart shows that, as surveillance of wards increased, compliance also increased. This in turn meant that auditing time decreased.

Notes to the Graph:

  1. Compliance with the Green Clinell Sticker policy (Patient Equipment in storage) increased from 19.7% to 81.2%
  2. Compliance with Patient Equipment in use increased from 89.6% to 100%
  3. Overall Compliance with the Management of Patient Equipment increased from 59.2% to 91.5%
  4. Audit Time was reduced from an average of 45 minutes per ward to 13.5 Minutes per ward. (contributing to this was a. the Learning Curve and b. an increase in standards.)

James Morris, Kairos Systems Director says:

Working on this evaluation project with the team at Lewisham Healthcare was an absolute pleasure. During the evaluation the Infection Prevention and control team showed nothing but professionalism, honesty and integrity which we believe led to the evaluation being as successful as it was.
Although overall the evaluation was relatively limited in its content and KAM functionality usage we were able to prove that by changing the way you audit can really make a difference and drive improvements in standards and compliance within a busy Acute Hospital.
We look forward to working further with the team at Lewisham Healthcare to expand the scope of audit and KAM functionality
